My
Profile
NAME
& AGE
My
name is Graeme Stevenson. My age is now 560years old.
HOW
DO YOU BECOME A DEAF?
I
was born hearing in Fairfield District Hospital on 30th December, 1963. But got suspected nerve damage which left myself almost totally
deaf when I was 10 months old.
WHAT
SCHOOL DO YOU ATTEND?
I
was attended to start age 3 years old in Farrar School for the Deaf
(No deaf sign language allowed until 1988) as per-school classes on
1964. Drive to school by Mr O'Brian, taxi driver, who drove a taxi to
pick up deaf students on way to two schools, Farrar School for the
Deaf & Burwood Primary School. From age 6 years old, I use State
Transit bus on way to Croydon Park then walk 5 minutes to my deaf
school. Until 1977 (Age 13 years old), Department of Education (N.S.W.
State Government) ordered to close down secondary school. I
automatically picked Kogarah High School O.D. Dept. (Only Deaf
Department) and start Year 9 classes on 1978. I was failed 1979 HSC
for Year 10 classes so I was re-attended Year 10 classes again on
1980. My late mother, Patricia Stevenson (pass away on 4th April 1991 -
Age 53) knew that I was too old to attend Kogarah High School. I was
left school on end of 3rd team on September 1980.
